The ICU is NOT fun!

About a month ago, I spent a few days in the ICU. Talk about a wakeup call. That will make you religious real fast if you are not already. The weird thing is I felt fine the whole time I was there. It was the doctors telling me that I was too sick to leave. My only complaints were the pain they caused me by sticking me with I.V. needles, shots and taking blood, keeping me awake all night with the constant beeps and alarms, no shower, uncomfortable pillow, awesome hospital food. My ailment was not painful at all. I seem to be O.K. for now. They “fixed” me. Don’t want to go back.

So I am finally done remodelling. Well I have one or two small projects to finish, but I’m done enough to move back in. I love it.

Ohio Jam at the Kerns’ House

For those of you who don’t know, for the last several years I have been driving to Ohio about once a year to attend a guitar jam where friends from all over gather to swap stories and play. This year it was hosted in a new location. It was Sean and Lisa Kerns’ first time hosting the event. Thanks to them for their hospitality. Here are a few pics from my weekend jam / get together in Ohio.

Oh yeah and a guitar followed me home.

My parts guitar (left) had a rattling truss rod. My attempts to fix it failed. I just so happened to have a Fender American Big Apple neck laying around. Doesn’t everyone have one of those laying around the house?

While I had the old WD Music neck off, I decided it was a good time to install a “Seth Lover” humbucker that I had. It too was just laying around. The pickup coming out is a Bill Lawrence “Wilde” Humbucker sized P-90. The Bill Lawrence single coils remain.

The “Seth Lover” pickup has cloth coated wire. That was a chore to remove. The springs were extra long and difficult to install with only two hands, but I finally prevailed. I Soldered the new pickup into place and replaced the pickguard. I screwed on the Fender neck and reused the old strings. Tweaked the truss rod a half turn and tuned it up. The intonation was actually right on. Plugged it into my amp and played. Sounded nice and beefy. Just like a humbucker should.

Memorial Day 2011

Breckenridge, CO

In February 2011 we took a long overdue vacation to Breckenridge, Co. We were joined by the Fousts and the Banthralls.

We had a blast!

This was taken right before we got on the snowmobiles.

Snow Mobiling was fun for the first 2 hours and 55 minutes. The last 5 minutes Sondra tried to kill us when we almost clipped a tree.

Our condo was right at the foot of the slopes. Very nice location. The view was great.

Relaxing after a fun day on the slopes. I don’t remember who won at dominoes, but I am sure it wasn’t me.

I got off on the wrong stop and had to catch the next one.

I had more fun skiing than I thought I would. I’d love to go back sometime.

Checking out all the shops was a fun part of the trip. We probably walked 10 miles up and down the street shopping and going out to eat. The food we had was wonderful as well. The nicest place was the Briar Rose. Excellent steak house. The Mac & Cheese was awesome.

Looking forward to doing that again, however it will have to wait. 5 degrees is cold. A warm climate vacation is next on the agenda.
